About the Role

Under the authority of the Director of the Governing Bodies Secretariat and the direct supervision of the Deputy Secretary of the Executive Board, the intern will contribute to the work of the team on governance-related tasks. The role covers reports, research and briefings, session preparation, documentation, and logistics to support the Executive Board and General Conference. The internship provides exposure to UNESCO governance processes in an international and multicultural setting.

What You'll Do

  • Assist in working meetings and contribute to reporting and briefing materials; provide support for elaboration of UNESCO information meetings reports
  • Conduct relevant research and draft analytical or summary notes on subjects relevant to the Governing Bodies Secretariat
  • Follow international news and inform the supervisor of important developments
  • Provide assistance with the design and follow-up to forthcoming sessions (debriefings, documents, decisions, Summary Records)
  • Participate in archiving and classification of statutory documents
  • Participate in logistics for forthcoming sessions (logistical, organizational, informative, functional, and conceptual support)
  • Contribute to other tasks to support smooth running of Governing Bodies meetings

What We're Looking For

  • Age: at least 20 years old to apply
  • Academic qualifications: currently enrolled and in the 3rd year or final year of Bachelor's, or enrolled in a second degree (Master's/PhD), or completed a degree no more than 12 months prior; for technical/vocational candidates, last year or recent graduate status as applicable
  • Languages: excellent command of English or French; working knowledge of the other language is an asset
  • Computer skills: excellent knowledge of computer systems and office software
  • Team player and ability to work in an international environment; strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure during sessions and understand governance/debates and statutory texts (Constitution of UNESCO, Rules of Procedure of the Executive Board)

Compensation & Benefits

  • UNESCO does not remunerate interns; no financial compensation or other remuneration
  • Interns are entitled to 2.5 days of leave per month during the internship and an additional 1 working day per complete month
  • Interns are provided with limited workplace insurance coverage for injury, illness, disability, or death directly attributable to the internship
