Job Description

Purpose of the role To support the Risk Function in delivering its objective of safeguarding the bank's financial and operational stability by proactively identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks across various business units and activities.

Accountabilities Development of strategic direction for risk, including the implementation of up-to-date methodologies and processes; Management of the risk department, including oversight of risk colleagues and their performance, implementation of risk priorities and objectives, oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness; Relationship management of risk stakeholders, including identifying relevant stakeholders, and maintenance of the quality of external third-party services; Adherence to the Risk policy, standards and frameworks, and maintaining a robust control environment.

Assistant Vice President Expectations To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/business divisions. Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function. Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes. OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for inclusion of other areas of specialization to complete assignments. Identify new directions for assignments and projects, identifying cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes. Consult on complex issues; provide advice to People Leaders to support resolution of escalated issues. Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda. Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done. Perform work closely related to other areas, requiring understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to organizational objectives. Collaborate with other areas of work to keep up to speed with business activity and strategy. Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources to solve problems creatively and effectively. Communicate complex information, including sensitive information. Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

The Barclays Group Insurance team is seeking a highly driven, forward-thinking early-career risk professional to support senior insurance risk managers with renewals, exposure and claims analysis, broker and insurer coordination, project planning, presentation development, key programs, including owner-controlled insurance program administration and help creating opportunities to automate processes with the use of technology.

To be successful as an Insurance Risk Manager - AVP, you should have:

  • Foundational knowledge of commercial insurance or risk management gained through relevant coursework, a graduate program, or early-career experience in insurance, brokerage, claims, or underwriting
  • Interest in supporting insurance programs, renewals, project activities, and relationships with brokers, insurers, and other service providers
  • Understanding of commercial insurance lines such as Property, Construction, Casualty, or Management Liability, with an eagerness to develop deeper technical knowledge
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned responsibilities, ask thoughtful questions, apply feedback, and complete work effectively with appropriate guidance
  • Well-developed organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic environment

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • ARM and/or CPCU would be a plus
  • Interest in learning insurance systems, data analysis, workflow automation, and responsible use of AI tools
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships with colleagues and external partners
  • Curiosity, sound judgment, a practical approach to problem-solving, and a willingness to learn
  • Adaptability and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while seeking guidance when needed

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in this role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role is located in New York, NY.

Salary: Minimum 100,000 Maximum 160,000
