About This Role In this role, you will actively participate as a member of our plant support team where you will be responsible for the instrumentation and the electrical systems, and day-to-day maintenance of the process control system for the facility. You will work closely with the Operations Team and maintenance personnel to ensure ongoing safe and proficient pilot plant operations and to support project scoping and supervise electrical contractors.

In this role, you will be using your prior related experience, job-related training, or vocational training to complete routine activities. You will need to have basic technical or administrative skills to follow the established and approved work processes. You will need to understand how these assigned duties relate to other jobs within your workgroup and be able to exchange technical information with other team members.

It is your responsibility to use standard operating procedures and/or analytical/scientific methods to address both defined problems as well as troubleshoot dysfunctional systems, related to instrumentation, electrical, and process control. You must have the ability to select solutions from established options to resolve typical administrative, data organization, and data coordination problems. You will be accountable for managing your own assigned workload with no additional supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Applies previous related experience, job-related training, or formal vocational training to ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned plant areas

  • Specifies, requisitions, and installs parts and equipment for small projects.

  • Scopes out electrical, instrumentation, and DCS requirements to the extent that cost and workload can be estimated for capital projects

  • Sets up and calibrates, tests, measures and repairs all types of controls and instruments with pneumatic, electrical, and electronic variables.

  • Performs tasks assigned to operations as per Master Task List (e.g. Field checks, instrument calibrations, etc.)

  • Uses trouble shooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems, and understands how the assigned duties relate to others in the team and how the team integrates with other related teams

  • Performs instrumentation troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance

  • Uses process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance and Operating discipline, including creating and improving job procedures related to instrumentation and electrical.

  • Participates in Root Cause Investigations

  • Performs process upset/crisis response activities assigned by Pilot Plant Technologist

  • Demonstrates proficient application of Life Critical Standards and sets role model in safety culture

  • Completes all assigned training per facility training plan

  • Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of an Associate's degree in a science related discipline/Military Degree Equivalency (MDE) and 3 years of relevant work experience, or high school diploma/GED and 5 years of relevant work experience.

  • Electrical license, similar higher learning degree or Military certification. Higher learning certificates may include: Associates I&E degrees, national/state recognized “electrician or electrical technician” training & certificate, Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering & internal/external apprenticeship programs.

  • Must be willing to work weekends, and holidays, if required.

  • Must be willing to work overtime (extra hours beyond your regular scheduled) if required.

  • Must have a current, valid US driver’s license.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • State or Local Journeyman or Master Electrician, Industrial Instrument Journeyman or equivalent, or 2+ years in Military Electronics training preferred.

  • Physical Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to do the following with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to a respirator.

  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

  • Frequent/occasional lifting of material weighing approximately 50 lbs.

  • Work in tight or closed-in spaces.

  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.

  • Stand 50% of the time.

  • Walk for extended periods of time.

  • Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.

  • Work in an area with hazardous materials.

  • Work at heights greater than or equal to 4 ft off the ground. Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs. (This typically accommodates individuals who weigh 285 or less)

  • Analytical Thinking: Evaluates technical and automation system issues, identifies root causes, and implements effective solutions using established procedures and technical knowledge.

  • Detail Oriented: Maintains accurate records of equipment readings, maintenance activities, calibrations, and observations while ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

  • Communication: Exchanges technical information with scientists, technologists, and team members, providing clear documentation and status updates on equipment and project activities.

  • Organizing: Coordinates maintenance schedules, calibration activities, troubleshooting efforts, and documentation to support efficient laboratory operations.

  • Planning & Prioritizing Work: Manages assignments, maintenance requirements, and experimental support activities while adjusting priorities to meet operational and project objectives.

  • Troubleshooting: Diagnoses, repairs, and supports complex automation systems, instrumentation, and laboratory equipment to minimize downtime and ensure reliable performance.
