Job title: Instructor of Speech
About the Role The Instructor of Speech is a part-time, exempt position responsible for delivering Public Speaking/Speech courses at Lamar Institute of Technology. The role reports to the Department Chair of General Education. Courses will be taught on-site at the Sam Houston State University Campus, with hours varying based on course schedules. This is not a posting for regular adjunct instructors.
What You'll Do
- Teach courses as scheduled and actively engage students in the learning process
- Maintain ethical and professional behavior
- Attend adjunct faculty meetings
- Assess courses on departmental and institutional levels
- Complete required training, such as Blackboard Online Instructor Certification and Title IX Training, FERPA, etc.
- Utilize LIT’s Teaching and Learning Center and SHSU Faculty Online Development Training to continually hone and improve professional knowledge and teaching skills
- Maintain knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures contained in the TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures Manual
- Other related duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
- Master’s degree in Communication or Speech, or Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Communication/Speech from a regionally accredited institution
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Strong time management skills
- Willingness to complete required training such as Blackboard Online Instructor Certification and Title IX Training, FERPA
Nice to Have
- Experience teaching in higher education
- Doctorate degree in subject area
- Related field and/or industry certifications
