About this role
About the Role Lamar Institute of Technology seeks an Instructor for English to teach English and Developmental Reading and Writing courses (including dual credit high school students) in the General Education and Developmental Studies Department. The role includes maintaining office hours, teaching extended day classes, labs, and hybrid/online courses on campus and at alternate locations, and assisting with curriculum development and program computer labs. All LIT faculty participate in recruitment and retention to support the Institute’s Shared Vision of Growth and Excellence.
What You'll Do
- Actively engage students in the learning process
- Maintain ethical and professional behavior
- Maintain knowledge of and adherence to TSUS and LIT policies and procedures
- Participate in college service, including committee work, advising and/or tutoring, and recruitment
- Teach classes during fall and spring semesters (including day, evening, weekend, and Early College High School/dual credit); online courses
- Provide mentorship to dual credit partners/mentees
- Attend Teaching and Learning Center sessions to enhance teaching skills
- Stay abreast of national matters and trends in education
- Participate in assessment activities for the LIT Core Curriculum
- Assist in curriculum development as needed
- Perform other related duties
What We're Looking For
- Master’s degree in English or Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in English from a regionally accredited institution
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies
- Good verbal and written communication
- Ability to work well in a team
- Good time management
Nice to Have
- Experience teaching in higher education
- Experience teaching English in the secondary school environment
- Doctorate degree in subject area
- Related field and/or industry certifications
