About the Role
Admit, transfer and discharge patients on inpatient units while delivering excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff. This role processes admissions and discharges, handles necessary documentation, and coordinates communication among nursing and other departments to schedule in-stay tests and appointments. The inpatient unit clerk also orders STAT items, maintains census information, coordinates transportation, and supports discharge planning.
What You'll Do
- Admit, transfer and discharge patients on various inpatient units; process admissions/discharges and distribute documentation
- Answer patient calls professionally and process physician orders and referrals in a timely manner
- Record and coordinate patient appointments and tests, and procure supplies, equipment, and services
- Maintain census information and assist in patient transportation; facilitate communication between nursing staff and other departments for in-stay appointments (MRI, Cath Lab, Radiology, etc.)
- Promptly order STAT EKGs, blood products, portable X-rays; maintain visitor lists and assist with discharge coordination
- Monitor child protection system when applicable; assist with coordination of patient pick-up upon discharge
