Job title: Industrial Maintenance Instructor

About the Role Develops and delivers industrial maintenance training programs at the Youngstown State University Steubenville location. The role serves as lead instructor, designs curriculum, and collaborates with site leadership to ensure effective operation of the Steubenville site.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as lead instructor during scheduled class times, including lesson preparation, lecture delivery, student assessment, and advising.
  • Obtain, organize, or develop training materials such as manuals, guides, or handouts, and visual aids.
  • Identify educational needs, develop formal training programs or classes, and teach in various manufacturing subjects.
  • Teach classes as needed; monitor and assess performance; implement improvements.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on Amatrol training equipment and related instructional lab systems.
  • Assist with curriculum development for new in-demand areas in the manufacturing industry.
  • Utilize knowledge of machine tools to develop training programs (outline, text, handouts, tests, hands-on exercises).
  • Plan hands-on shop floor training activities to enhance students' comprehension.
  • Perform stand-up classroom and shop floor instruction following established curricula, using visual aids (training machines, graphs, charts, videotape, slides).
  • Observe trainees to ensure comprehension; administer written and practical exams; write performance reports.
  • Train new hires.
  • Perform other duties as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.

What We're Looking For

  • Willingness to become a Certified Instructor in any related area of need.
  • Knowledge of industrial maintenance and PLCs; OSHA, electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, engineering, information technology; adult learning and competency-based learning techniques.
  • Skill in teaching methodologies for adults.
  • Ability to teach and work in a team environment; passionately share your craft with students; participate in professional development opportunities; present information with various instructional techniques or formats (role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, or lectures).
  • Minimum Qualifications: At least a high school diploma or GED and at least four years of experience in a related field, or completion of at least a bachelor's degree and two years of experience in a related field.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching adult students. Knowledge of and/or experience with Amatrol curriculum. Experience working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and/or OSHA.
  • Physical Requirements: Light work; ability to walk/stand for significant periods; sit for long periods; push/pull small objects; may involve production rate pace.

Nice to Have

  • Experience teaching adult students.
  • Knowledge of Amatrol curriculum.
  • Experience working with PLCs and/or OSHA.
