About the Opportunity
- A growing cosmetics and skin-health business is seeking a competent, analytical, and detail-oriented In-House Accountant to oversee day-to-day accounting activities, maintain accurate financial records, monitor transactions and inventory movements, and provide timely financial information to support management decisions.
- This position requires a hands-on accounting professional who understands the importance of financial accuracy, disciplined record-keeping, internal controls, and reliable reporting in a product-based business.
- The successful candidate must be comfortable working with accounting software, spreadsheets, sales and payment records, supplier transactions, and stock information.
- Beyond recording transactions, the candidate is expected to identify discrepancies, maintain accountability, and help management maintain a clear and dependable view of the business’s financial position.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Accounting and Bookkeeping:
- Record and monitor daily business transactions, sales receipts, expenses, purchases, and payments.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and properly documented accounting records.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, supplier balances, customer obligations, and payment follow-ups.
- Ensure transactions are appropriately classified, supported by relevant documentation, and recorded promptly.
- Maintain organised digital and physical records for internal review and audit purposes.
Financial Reporting and Management Support:
- Prepare monthly profit and loss statements, cash-flow reports, expense summaries, and other management accounts.
- Monitor revenue, expenditure, margins, cash movements, and budget performance.
- Support budgeting, cash-flow planning, expenditure control, and basic financial forecasting.
- Provide management with timely financial updates, explanations of significant variances, and recommendations where necessary.
- Maintain reporting schedules and ensure that agreed deadlines are consistently met.
Bank, Sales and Payment Reconciliation:
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding or unexplained differences.
- Reconcile POS transactions, bank transfers, cash receipts, and other payment channels against sales records.
- Monitor payment discrepancies, refunds, outstanding balances, and unusual transactions.
- Escalate material inconsistencies or potential control weaknesses promptly.
Inventory Accounting and Retail Controls:
- Reconcile inventory records against purchases, sales, returns, transfers, and physical stock counts.
- Monitor stock valuation and investigate inventory variances, unexplained losses, and discrepancies between physical and recorded quantities.
- Work with operations and retail personnel to maintain accurate transaction records and effective stock controls.
- Support the implementation of procedures that strengthen accountability over inventory, cash, expenses, and other business assets.
Tax Compliance and Financial Administration:

Assist with tax documentation, statutory reporting, and other applicable compliance requirements.

Coordinate with external accountants or relevant professionals where required.

Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for tax, audit, and financial review purposes.

Support the development and maintenance of sound financial procedures and internal controls.

Qualifications and Experience

BSc or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.

Two to four years of relevant, hands-on accounting experience.

Practical proficiency in at least one recognised accounting platform, such as QuickBooks, Zoho Books, or Sage.

Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, reconciliations, financial schedules, and data analysis.

Sound understanding of bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, inventory accounting, and financial reporting.

Experience in retail, FMCG, cosmetics, distribution, e-commerce, or another product-based business will be an advantage.

Progress toward ICAN, ATS, or another recognised professional accounting qualification will be an added advantage.

Strong numerical accuracy, analytical ability, organisation, confidentiality, and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently, identify errors, meet deadlines, and communicate financial information clearly.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain current and accurate accounting records, produce timely monthly financial reports, reconcile bank and sales transactions, monitor inventory discrepancies, and provide management with dependable financial information.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate practical competence in accounting software and Excel, explain how they have handled reconciliations and reporting in previous roles, and show a clear understanding of financial controls in a retail or product-based business.

Remuneration
-
Monthly Salary: N150,000–N200,000
