Immigration Program Specialist

The People Specialist & GFT – Immigration provides advanced subject matter expertise and strategic operational leadership for U.S. immigration programs across Mercedes-Benz U.S. entities. The role supports the centralized People Solutions Center operating model and serves as the primary operational liaison among employees, candidates, People Consultants, Recruiting, managers, Legal, Finance, entity stakeholders, and the immigration services provider, with day-to-day operational case work performed in close collaboration with the immigration provider.

This senior individual contributor exercises independent judgment within established guidelines, manages complex cases and escalations in coordination with the immigration provider, oversees provider performance, monitors compliance and program costs, and leads continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership & Advisory 30%

  • Serve as the U.S. immigration subject matter expert and central process contact across supported Mercedes-Benz U.S. entities

  • Provide consultative guidance to People Consultants, Recruiting, Managers, and Leadership on immigration processes, policy interpretation, timing, cost, and risk considerations

  • Coordinate complex or exception matters with the immigration provider and prepare recommendations for appropriate decision-makers

  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of the harmonized immigration operating model

  • Case Management & Operational Governance 30%

  • Coordinate centralized intake, required approvals, provider initiation, status tracking, deadlines, document expirations, and stakeholder communications in partnership with the immigration provider

  • Oversee and coordinate operational support delivered with the immigration provider for employment-based visas, extensions, amendments, consular matters, and employment-based permanent residency cases

  • Manage urgent matters and escalations with the immigration provider while maintaining accurate and confidential case documentation

  • Act as the primary liaison among employees, candidates, immigration counsel, People Consultants, Recruiting, managers, and entity stakeholders

  • Compliance, Risk & Vendor Oversight 25%

  • Monitor alignment with immigration requirements, internal governance standards, privacy expectations, and established approval processes

  • Stay current on regulatory and industry developments and coordinate appropriate guidance with Legal and immigration counsel

  • Oversee immigration-provider service quality, responsiveness, capacity, escalations, and performance against agreed service expectations.

  • Identify operational risks and recurring issues and drive corrective actions with internal stakeholders and the provider

  • Coordinate internal communications and stakeholder updates on immigration trends, regulatory developments, and relevant government decisions in coordination with the immigration provider

  • Financial, Reporting & Process Improvement 15%

  • Track and analyze case volumes, status, aging, deadlines, service performance, program costs, and operational risks

  • Review provider reporting and invoices for accuracy, appropriate entity and cost-center allocation, and alignment with case activity

  • Track KPI, cost, trend, and risk reporting for leadership and operational reviews

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, cost transparency, controls, and employee experience

Qualifications

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of overall work experience, including 5 or more years in People Consulting, Shared Services, Mobility, Immigration, or a related functional area.
  • Experience supporting U.S. immigration cases and working with immigration counsel or service providers.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret operational data, financial information, costs, and trends.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with senior management.
  • High degree of independent judgment, attention to detail, discretion, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex and time-sensitive matters across entities and stakeholders.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, Management, or related field required; master’s degree preferred
  • Experience in a multi-entity, shared services, or centralized operating environment
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Workday, immigration-provider systems, KPI reporting, and invoice review
  • Experience leading process improvements, provider governance, or cross-functional initiatives without direct authority
