Job title: Ignite Scholar, Research Assistant Professor
About the Role The Ignite Scholar is a mentored, two- to three-year program designed to prepare recent PhD graduates or postdoctoral fellows for tenure-track faculty leadership at NEOMED. You will pursue either a Research Track focused on building an independent, funded research program, or a Graduate Education Track focused on advancing biomedical education and educational scholarship, with automatic transition to tenure-track upon successful completion.
What You'll Do
- Research Track: devote ~90% of time to conducting innovative research; develop an independent research program in collaboration with a senior mentor; publish high-quality papers; explore fields such as neuroscience and hearing research, cardiovascular or cancer biology, tissue regeneration and repair, motor control, health services research, or bioinformatics; minimal initial teaching responsibilities.
- Graduate Education Track: dedicate ~50% of time to advancing biomedical science education; engage in educational research, dissemination, and grant writing; build a rewarding career as an educational scholar.
- Mentorship & Career Development: receive personalized guidance from a dedicated mentor; regular check-ins with a guidance committee to refine research, enhance teaching skills, and accelerate career progression.
- Outcome: upon successful completion of the two-to-three-year program and meeting productivity benchmarks, you will be automatically appointed to a tenure-track assistant professor position.
What We're Looking For
- Recently completed doctoral degree (PhD) or postdoctoral experience; strong record of biomedical research or educational scholarship; high-achieving researcher or educator prepared to pursue an academic career.
- Interest in two dynamic tracks (Research and Graduate Education) and alignment with NEOMED’s mission and core values of Integrity, Collaboration, and Excellence.
- Ability to develop an independent research program in collaboration with a senior mentor and to engage in educational research and grant writing as applicable.
- Commitment to a collaborative, team-based environment and to contributing to NEOMED’s mission of educating health professionals, advancing discovery, and improving regional health.
