About this role
Location: Site-based at the Springer Tungsten Mine and Mill, Imlay, Nevada
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Employment type: 6-month contract with possibility for extension
Reports to: Site Environmental Coordinator
About the Role
Springer is launching an extensive exploration drilling program and using it to build the hydrogeological and geochemical baseline for the mine. The data collected will meet our obligations under the Nevada Water Pollution Control Permit and will feed the long-term models needed to plan mining below the water table.
As Baseline Program Coordinator, you will run the day-to-day delivery of that program. You will work with the exploration team, drill crews, and our hydrogeology consultant to make sure the right water-monitoring equipment goes into the right boreholes and the right core and water samples reach the lab, with documentation that will stand up to regulatory and modeling scrutiny.
What You’ll Do
Run the baseline program
-
Manage the hydrogeological and geochemical baseline collection program from planning through delivery, tracking progress against the drilling schedule and permit commitments.
-
Lead the weekly baseline program meeting and keep actions, owners, and deadlines current.
-
Track program budget and purchasing, and coordinate procurement of monitoring equipment (casing, pipe, piezometers, and related supplies) for exploration boreholes.
Hydrogeology data collection
-
Coordinate with the consultant and exploration team on drilling-based hydrogeological data collection, including drilling reports and information requests.
-
Support the consultant with on-site installation and testing of monitoring instrumentation.
-
Field activities including water level measurements, well development, and water sampling.
Geochemical characterization
-
Coordinate core data collection for the geochemical characterization program, including sample selection and compositing.
-
Prepare and ship samples to laboratories with complete chain-of-custody documentation, and follow up on turnaround and results.
Data management and quality
-
Maintain the baseline database, including drilling, installation, sampling, and laboratory records.
-
Apply QA/QC procedures to field and laboratory data, and flag gaps, anomalies, or deviations to the consultant and environmental team promptly.
-
Prepare data packages for the consultant and for permit-related reporting.
Compliance support
-
Monitor exploration drilling activities for compliance with the Water Pollution Control Permit and related environmental requirements, and escalate issues to the Site Environmental Coordinator, who retains responsibility for site environmental compliance.
-
Help prepare documentation and data for regulatory submissions and inspections.
Communication and collaboration
- Act as the day-to-day link between drilling supervisors, the exploration team, the consultant, laboratories, and site management, translating technical requirements into clear, practical instructions for field crews.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in hydrogeology, geology, geochemistry, environmental science, or a closely related engineering or earth-science field.
-
Minimum 5 years of experience in mining or mineral exploration, including at least 2 years in hydrogeological, geochemical, or environmental field data collection.
-
Working knowledge of Nevada environmental permitting for mining, including water pollution control permits and the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) process.
-
Experience with at least two of the following: drilling or core programs, geochemical sampling programs, installing or monitoring hydrogeological instrumentation, coordinating technical contractors or consultants.
-
Strong data-handling discipline: chain of custody, QA/QC, and accurate record keeping.
-
Ability to work independently and as part of a team across exploration, environmental, and consultant groups, and to communicate clearly with drilling crews and management.
-
MSHA new-miner training current, or willingness to complete before start.
-
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Hands-on experience supporting field data collection on active drilling programs.
-
Familiarity with Nevada mine waste rock and geochemical characterization requirements.
-
Experience with GIS and Leapfrog.
