About this role
Hydrogen Process Engineer
Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Canada | req32481
The Hydrogen Process Engineer is responsible for supporting Linde’s Autothermal Reformer (ATR) and carbon capture facility. The facility is in the engineering phase and as it matures further into construction and operation the needed skills will also adapt. The successful candidate will work supporting Operations through project execution and startup. Once operational, responsibilities will include day-to-day safe, reliable, efficient operation through technical support and monitoring. The candidate will be tasked to identify longer-term productivity improvement projects. There is a requirement to utilize a variety of engineering tools which may include process models, historical operating data, statistical analysis tools, and simulation software. Responsibility includes assistance with routine troubleshooting of operational issues and ensuring compliance with all elements of process safety.
What you will enjoy doing
- In this role, you’d be the technical process expert for the plant, helping operations run safely, efficiently, and reliably on a day-to-day basis
- You’d take a leadership role in process safety, supporting critical safety systems, management of change, hazard reviews, incident investigations, and alarm management
- A key part of the role is monitoring plant performance, analyzing operational data, validating KPIs, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity
- You’d work closely with operations teams to troubleshoot process issues, participate in root cause analyses, and implement long-term solutions
- Training and knowledge sharing are important, so you’d help develop process training programs and provide technical guidance to plant personnel
- You’d support plant turnarounds, startup and shutdown activities, and contribute to major projects by providing process engineering expertise
- We’re looking for someone who can work independently, influence best practices, and collaborate effectively with internal teams, customers, and other facilities
- The role requires flexibility to support planned and unplanned operational events, and comfort working in industrial environments, including elevated areas and confined spaces as needed
What makes you great
- We’re looking for someone with an Engineering degree and at least 5 years of experience in an industrial plant environment, ideally in a process-driven operation
- You should have experience using process simulation software and be comfortable analyzing plant performance and solving complex process challenges
- Process safety is a major focus, so a strong understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) standards and safe operating practices is essential
- Hydrogen operations experience would be a strong asset, though it’s not a requirement
- We’d value someone with project management experience who can help drive initiatives, support plant improvements, and work across multiple teams
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills are important, as you’ll be collaborating closely with operations, engineering, and leadership teams
- The role requires some flexibility, including occasional off-hours support, so you’ll need to be comfortable carrying a laptop and cell phone as needed
- There will also be some travel involved, up to about 30% during the facility startup and operational ramp-up phase
