Job Description Commercial / Industrial HVAC Technician Location: Akron, OH area Pay: $30-$34/hour Schedule: Monday-Friday, 1st Shift Start: ASAP
Position Overview We are seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to support the operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of commercial and industrial HVAC systems at a large facility in the Akron area.
This position is ideal for a seasoned technician who is comfortable troubleshooting complex HVAC equipment, working with building controls, performing preventative maintenance, and handling projects with minimal supervision. The technician may also provide direction to other maintenance personnel and assist with planning, estimating, and coordinating HVAC-related work.
EPA 608 Universal Certification is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and install commercial and industrial HVAC systems and related equipment.
- Review blueprints, specifications, schematics, and system performance information to understand equipment configuration and operating requirements.
- Inspect HVAC systems and components to identify malfunctions, performance issues, and deviations from specifications.
- Start, operate, monitor, and adjust HVAC equipment including compressors, pumps, condensers, fans, motors, valves, actuators, and controls.
- Monitor building and energy management systems for alarms or abnormal operating conditions and take appropriate corrective action.
- Troubleshoot heating and cooling concerns throughout the facility.
- Diagnose system issues by reviewing operating conditions, speaking with building occupants, taking readings, and testing components.
- Record temperature, pressure, equipment performance, and other required operating data.
- Operate refrigerant recovery equipment, vacuum pumps, charging equipment, and service gauges.
- Recover, evacuate, charge, and service refrigeration and air-conditioning systems in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Repair or replace motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring, valves, pumps, compressors, piping, and other HVAC components.
- Perform electrical wiring and connections associated with HVAC equipment.
- Cut, thread, braze, weld, and connect piping as required.
- Fabricate, modify, and install ductwork and related sheet-metal components.
- Evaluate spaces and equipment to help determine airflow and HVAC requirements.
- Install complete heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems and components.
- Lubricate and service fans, motors, control assemblies, and related equipment.
- Complete scheduled preventative and predictive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
- Assist with estimating materials, laying out work, and coordinating HVAC projects.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work documentation, and service reports.
- Maintain tools, equipment, spare parts, and HVAC-related inventory.
- Keep work areas and maintenance spaces clean, organized, and safe.
- Stay current on HVAC equipment, controls, refrigerants, and industry practices through ongoing training.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Technical or trade school training in HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical systems, or a related field strongly preferred.

Approximately 10+ years of commercial or industrial HVAC experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and hands-on experience.

Strong knowledge of commercial and industrial heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems.

Experience with both pneumatic and DDC/building automation controls.

Ability to troubleshoot HVAC systems independently with limited supervision.

Experience working with compressors, pumps, motors, controls, valves, ductwork, piping, refrigeration circuits, and related mechanical equipment.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, safety procedures, operating manuals, and maintenance documentation.

Ability to complete routine reports and maintenance documentation accurately.

Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages, and measurements.

Ability to safely operate or become qualified to operate forklifts and aerial lifts.

Valid driver's license required.

Required Certifications

EPA Section 608 Universal Certification covering Type I, Type II, and Type III equipment.

Appropriate refrigerant recovery and handling certification.
