The Churchgate Group HVAC Technician

Location: Victoria Island, Marina - Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities

• Report to duty for shift briefings and task assignments.
• Participate in daily toolbox meetings.
• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance in HVAC systems.
• Operate VRV/VRF, AHU, Chillers, and FCU systems.
• Ensure proper housekeeping of all HVAC panels (cleanliness, no obstructions, proper labeling, pest control, etc.).
• Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) tasks – cleaning, tightening connections, thermal scanning, lubrication, filter changes, etc.
• Conduct daily walk-through inspections of HVAC equipment rooms; report abnormalities immediately.
• Respond to HVAC system faults, tenant complaints, and emergency breakdowns (including after-hours call-outs as rostered).
• Troubleshoot simple circuit failures, reset breakers, and replace faulty components.
• Escalate complex or high-voltages issues to the HVAC supervisor.
• Follow all safety procedures – use of PPE, lockout/tag out (LOTO), and permit-to-work systems.
• Update work logs, maintenance records, and defect reports in SMART CHECK or other systems.
• Maintain ventilation and exhaust fans.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition; notify supervisor of material shortages.
• Assist in supervising contractor work onsite (e.g., witnessing tests, ensuring site safety).
• Support general facility maintenance activities when required.
• Must be willing to work day and night shifts, Sundays as per duty schedule, and public holidays.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the HVAC supervisor, facilities manager, or engineer-in-charge.

Requirements

• Educational Qualification: Trade Test certificate (Grade I, II, or III), national Diploma (ND) in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering. Completed technical apprenticeship/ vocational training.
• Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of practical experience in a commercial, high-rise, or industrial facility
• Professional Qualification: Any of the following is an additional advantage, Basic first aid/ CPR

Skills and Competencies:

• Hands-on knowledge of HVAC systems: Split unit ACs, Chillers, AHUs, VRV/VRF, etc.
• Good troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Basic computer literacy – able to log tasks in SMART CHECK or mobile app.
• Clear communication – able to report issues verbally and in writing.
• Team player, follows instructions, works safely under pressure.
• Flexible and willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
