About the Role The HVAC Technician will operate, maintain, and repair all equipment used for heating, ventilation and air conditioning across college buildings, including central heating and central chilled water plants, to provide a comfortable and safe environment for study, teaching and learning. What You'll Do
- Operate, maintain and repair all HVAC equipment and components to manufacturer recommendations (valves, motors, belts, bearings, filters, lubrication, etc.).
- Manage central heating plant (steam/hot water) and central chilled water plant to maintain building temperatures and runtimes using Metasys and Auto-Flame.
- Learn locations of HVAC equipment and how they relate to each building; coordinate with campus facilities.
- Prepare boilers for state inspections (refractory work, cleaning and installing new seals on boiler shell and waterside inspection ports).
- Replace bearings and seals on centrifugal pumps; change bearings on fan systems, motors and pump shafts.
- Service, install, repair and replace refrigeration systems (split systems, chillers, packaged units).
- Monitor and perform preventative maintenance schedules for all HVAC systems.
- Work with outside vendors, engineers and consultants on projects affecting HVAC systems on buildings; ensure safety regulations and local codes are followed.
- Maintain proper system functionality and provide excellent customer service to support a productive campus environment. What We're Looking For
- Experience operating and maintaining HVAC systems in large facilities (including central heating/steam hot water and central chilled water plants).
- Knowledge of Metasys building automation and Auto-Flame controls.
- Ability to prepare boilers for state inspections and perform related refractory work, cleaning and sealing.
- Ability to replace bearings and seals on pumps, bearings on fans, motors and pump shafts.
- Familiarity with cooling tower operations and troubleshooting.
- Experience servicing refrigeration systems (split systems, chillers, packaged units).
- Strong organizational skills to create, manage and execute preventive maintenance schedules.
- Commitment to safety regulations and local codes; customer-service oriented.
- Team player able to work with outside vendors, engineers and consultants on campus projects.
