About this role
The HVAC Engineer assists in the maintenance of all refrigeration and air conditioning equipment onboard. Our on board refrigerated food stores need monitoring, and our air conditioning systems regular cleaning and maintenance, and troubleshooting when not working as they should.
What you will contribute
Technical
- Maintain ship’s main refrigeration plant and all other refrigeration machinery onboard (including condenser and strainer cleaning)
- Maintain main air conditioning chiller units and hospital air conditioning plant and all other units onboard (including cleaning strainers and heat exchangers)
- Maintain required log books and keep proper records of maintenance carried out in the Company’s planned maintenance system
- Ensure adequate supply of refrigerant gas, refrigerant lubricating oil, and spare parts on board as well as ensure refrigeration tools are kept in good working order and in good supply
- Maintain spare cabinets and spare parts therein and refrigeration storeroom and tools therein
- Maintain air handlers, including the cleaning of air handlers filters in the vent stations
- Maintain chilled water, condenser circulation, and seawater air conditioning pumps
- Stand watch in the machinery spaces if required, according to the Certificate of Competency capacity
- Understand the Company Safety Management System and the ship’s Contingency Plan for emergency procedures

For This Role, You Will Need
STCW Certifications
- Required
- Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW VI/1 Basic Training
- Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW V/2-1 Crowd Management
- Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW V/2-3 Crisis Management and Human Behavior
- Certificate of Examination in accordance with STCW I/9 Medical Fitness and Minimum In-Service Eyesight
- Preferred
- Certificate of Competency in accordance with STCW III/1 – OIC of an Engineering Watch 3000 kW or greater, with all necessary STCW elements

- Competent in Windows, Microsoft Office Programs, and general file/folder management tasks

Education and Experience
- Successful completion of Mercy Ships On Boarding Program Successful completion of Onboarding program will be required for service of 1 year or more
- Appropriate training and experience in refrigeration and air conditioning systems preferred
