Job title: HVAC Controls Technician (Building Automation Technician) – Federal Systems
About the Role Join Johnson Controls Federal Systems as an HVAC Controls Technician (Building Automation Technician) at the Pentagon, supporting energy efficiency and resilience for a critical government facility. You’ll work on building automation systems (BAS) and related mechanical equipment, with most work involving Metasys and Distech controls. This onsite role is part of a team that modernizes DoD and federal facilities.
What You'll Do
- Perform preventive maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning, point-to-point checkouts, troubleshooting and replacement of HVAC controls systems (BAS) and related mechanical equipment; most work will involve Johnson Controls Metasys and Distech controls
- Diagnose and repair electronic and digital control system malfunctions
- Test and modify system software as needed
- Assist with sketching and documenting field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings
- Provide training and manuals to customers on electronic control systems operations
- Help mechanical staff troubleshoot issues and may assist with minor mechanical maintenance
- Ensure safety and compliance with company, federal regulations, standards, and customer requirements
- Compile project documentation such as certificates of completion, training forms, and punch lists
- Read blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems programs, schematics and manuals
- Conduct self-study to improve proficiency and complete certifications as required
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years experience with HVAC Controls (Direct Digital Controls), VAVs, VRFs, or related systems and equipment
- Knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems, HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques
- Ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances and/or badges as required to perform site duties
Nice to Have
- Technical knowledge and experience with Johnson Controls Metasys, Tridium Niagara, or Distech Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems
- Programming and/or troubleshooting various brands of HVAC controls products (Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, Delta, Distech, Carrier, ALC, Andover)
- Experience with BAS communication protocols including BACnet MSTP, BACnet IP, N2, P1, Modbus, and/or LON
- Experience using SMP, SCT, and/or CCT
- Technical schooling, Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical systems, Computer technology, HVAC, or related field, or relevant experience
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $43.00 - $58.00 per hour (negotiable based on experience)
