HSE Specialist- Wells Support

MAIN FUNCTIONS

• Provide HSE leadership and support for drilling, completion, workover, well intervention, and other well-related activities.
• Ensure wells operations are conducted in accordance with company HSE policies, approved procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Identify hazards and assess risks associated with well operations and recommend appropriate control measures.
• Provide HSE support to drilling and well services teams, contractors, and service companies.
• Monitor compliance with Permit to Work (PTW), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), SIMOPS, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and other control-of-work requirements.
• Conduct field inspections, safety observations, audits, and HSE assurance activities at wellsites and support locations.
• Support the implementation of emergency response, spill prevention, and environmental protection measures.
• Participate in incident, near-miss, and high-potential event investigations and ensure corrective actions are tracked to closure.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review HSE plans, risk assessments, method statements, bridging documents, and well activity programs.
• Verify that contractors and service providers meet required HSE standards before and during well operations.
• Conduct pre-job meetings, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and HSE awareness sessions.
• Monitor critical well activities such as pressure testing, well control operations, lifting, well intervention, confined-space work, hot work, and simultaneous operations.
• Promote effective use of PPE and compliance with safe work practices.
• Monitor hazardous materials, chemicals, waste handling, and environmental controls.
• Report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, incidents, and environmental releases.
• Maintain HSE inspection, audit, incident, and performance records.
• Follow up on corrective and preventive actions and verify effective close-out.
• Support emergency drills and verify emergency equipment and arrangements.
• Provide HSE performance reports and recommendations to Wells and HSE management.
• Promote continuous improvement in HSE performance across wells operations.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Recognized HSE certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent is an advantage.
• Relevant experience in oil & gas drilling, completion, workover, well intervention, or well services.
• Strong knowledge of HSE management systems and control-of-work processes.
• Experience working with drilling contractors, well services companies, and other oilfield service providers is an advantage.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and Nigerian regulatory requirements.
• Good communication, reporting, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in field, rig, offshore, or remote wellsite environments.
