Job Summary
- We are seeking a competent HSE Officer to join our team in Lekki, Lagos.
- The successful candidate will support the implementation and continuous improvement of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) systems across our renewable energy projects and operations. This role is critical to ensuring a safe workplace, regulatory compliance, and strong environmental stewardship on project sites and in the office.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor HSE policies, procedures, and safe systems of work across project sites and office operations.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments; identify hazards and recommend practical control measures.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents; prepare reports and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
- Support the development and delivery of HSE induction, toolbox talks, and training programs for staff, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure compliance with Nigerian HSE regulations, company standards, and relevant international best practices (including environmental requirements).
- Maintain accurate HSE documentation, records, permits-to-work, and performance data.
- Assist in emergency preparedness, including drills and response planning.
- Promote a strong safety culture and actively engage with project teams, contractors, and management on HSE matters.
- Support environmental management activities, including waste management, spill prevention, and monitoring of environmental aspects on sites.
- Report HSE performance metrics and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Frequent site visits and project travel within Lagos and across Nigeria as required.
Requirements
Education & Professional Qualifications:
- B.Eng. or HND in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
- Professional HSE certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, ISPON, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Membership of a relevant professional body is an advantage.
- 2 - 5 years of practical HSE experience, preferably in construction, power, renewable energy, oil & gas, or infrastructure projects.
- Hands-on experience with site HSE supervision, risk assessments, incident investigation, and contractor management.
- Familiarity with Nigerian HSE legislation and industry standards is required.
- Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental management principles.
- Good observational, analytical, hazard-identification, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Ability to work independently on sites while reporting clearly to management.
- Attention to detail, integrity, and a proactive approach to safety.
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office); experience with HSE reporting tools is an advantage.
