Overview: The HR Manager, West Africa at Bureau Veritas in Lagos, Nigeria serves as a trusted HR partner to managers and employees, providing practical, commercially focused HR guidance and driving alignment with company standards and international best practices across the region.
Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and understand the operational needs of the business.
- Define, develop and implement the operating framework, policies and procedures for the HR department across the region, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance and alignment with company standards and international best practices.
- Oversee day-to-day HR activities to deliver services cost-effectively and in a timely manner, including payroll, leave management, joining and leaving processes, promotions, and related activities.
- Implement and monitor HR KPIs in line with the business strategy.
- Maintain and update the organization structure and ensure up-to-date job descriptions for all roles across the region.
- Evaluate jobs and review compensation and benefit packages to align with external market trends.
- Lead the development and implementation of manpower and recruitment plans to attract top talent.
- Contribute to and lead the development and implementation of talent management and development frameworks to support capability development across the region.
- Develop and implement positive employee relations programs, reward and recognition, and promotions systems to enhance motivation and effectiveness.
- Partner with senior management to advise on operational and strategic HR matters, including recruitment, career development, succession planning and talent management.
- Lead the training needs analysis process and execute training interventions to upskill and enhance capability.
- Support the development and implementation of ERP/HR systems to drive efficiency through automation.
- Stay informed about the external HR environment, including regional labor regulations and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external regulations, including QHSSE requirements, using company policies and procedures.
- Coach, lead, and manage the performance of team members, helping them overcome challenges and perform accurately and efficiently.
- Set and agree individual goals for direct reports and provide regular feedback and coaching in line with the company’s people management practices.
Requirements
- Substantial HR management experience in a regional or multi-country setting, with a focus on delivering practical HR solutions aligned to business needs.
- Strong stakeholder management and ability to partner with senior leadership.
- Experience in payroll, recruitment, learning and development, performance management, and employee relations.
- Knowledge of HR systems and experience supporting ERP/HR implementations.
- Familiarity with local labor regulations and regional best practices in West Africa.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop a team, set objectives, and provide ongoing feedback.
- Commitment to compliance with regulatory requirements and company QHSSE standards.
- Strategic thinking with the ability to translate business goals into HR plans and actions.
