About this role

HR Business Partner (HRBP)

Direct Hire

Hybrid in Phoenix, AZ

4 days/week onsite, 1 day/week remote

Industry: 100% employee owned construction/general contracting company

The Role

This role serves as a strategic advisor and trusted partner to market, department, and operational leaders, helping them navigate workforce planning, onboarding, performance support, employee relations, and organizational change with clarity, care, and accountability. In this role, leaders view you as a credible, trusted advisor, and people issues are addressed earlier--not later--so teams gain stronger clarity, consistency, and accountability. You handle employee relations matters thoughtfully, fairly, and effectively, while supporting growth and change without losing what makes the company special. The right person is proactive and grounded, able to influence leaders with confidence so our leaders and teams feel supported, challenged, and aligned.

What you will accomplish

  • Partner with leaders to align people strategies with business needs, operational goals, and workforce plans.
  • Coach leaders through employee performance, team dynamics, feedback, accountability, and difficult people matters.
  • Support workforce and capacity planning based on business needs, project demands, and growth.
  • Partner on onboarding to help new hires enter the business with clarity, consistency, and a strong connection to safety and culture.
  • Guide leaders in fair and consistent application of company policies and people practices.
  • Support employee relations matters, investigations, documentation, and risk mitigation with sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Help leaders identify team needs, role clarity gaps, and organizational challenges that may impact engagement or performance.
  • Support change management efforts tied to growth, restructuring, new ways of working, and business evolution.
  • Build strong relationships across jobsites, offices, and leadership teams to proactively surface and address people-related concerns.
  • Champion a people-first, values-based culture while balancing what is right for both the individual and the organization.

What we would like you to have

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, Psychology, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience (construction, skilled trades, or field-based environments strongly preferred).
  • Strong leadership coaching and relationship-building skills.
  • Sound judgment and confidence navigating employee relations and sensitive issues.
  • Ability to influence leaders with both empathy and accountability.
  • Strong business acumen; able to connect people strategy to operational outcomes.
  • Comfortable working across field and office environments.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on support.
  • Clear communication, follow-through, and professionalism.
  • Genuine care for people while maintaining standards, expectations, and business needs.
  • Working knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
  • Ability to travel to jobsites as needed.
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR), preferred.
