Job title: HPC Systems Engineer
About the Role ExxonMobil is seeking an HPC Systems Engineer to design, implement, and operate a performant, reliable, and secure High-Performance Computing (HPC) environment. You will work within a team to develop and maintain HPC systems that enable global analytics and engineering workloads across our Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon initiatives.
What You'll Do
- Establish strategies for overall support of the HPC system.
- Evaluate new hardware and software and assess benefits/impacts.
- Perform hardware maintenance and software installations/upgrades (OS and applications).
- Monitor system performance and health; manage data in the environment.
- Provide user support to resolve problems and enable effective system use.
- Collaborate with business customers and globally distributed technical teams across time zones.
- Engage with vendors for problem resolution and roadmaps for evaluations.
- Foster a collaborative, cross-organizational work environment and maintain contacts to execute work.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent).
- At least 3 years of hands-on Linux experience (RHEL/CentOS) and production infrastructure support (networking, storage, monitoring, compute, installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrades).
- Experience in system administration and technical support (installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrade, retirement, problem resolution).
- Experience with HPC technologies (Lustre/GPFS), high-speed interconnects (Infiniband/Omni-Path), and HPC batch schedulers (PBSPro/SLURM).
- Proficiency in technical writing and documentation; strong data center operations knowledge (networking, cooling, power).
- Strong teamwork, self-motivation, and excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- IT skills in infrastructure and applications; experience supporting large-scale production environments.
- Experience implementing changes and security controls in a global framework.
- Knowledge of installing/compiling vendor and open-source software.
- Experience deploying and supporting applications/infrastructure in major cloud environments.
- Willingness to relocate to Bengaluru and work the 1:30 PM–10:30 PM IST shift.
