About this role

The Hospital Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for managing the operation and maintenance of the hospital, mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure onboard the ships.

What you will contribute

Technical

  • Carry out and document regular maintenance on designated equipment as per planned maintenance system
  • Complete daily rounds and logs of equipment and spaces as per planned routines
  • Manage spare parts and supplies, ensuring adequate onboard levels, pre-planning overhauls and ordering parts required
  • Manage hospital shipboard JIRA requests
  • Support annual maintenance work requests and enhancements requested by the Hospital Engineer and through the ship space modification process
  • Support and coordinate vendor/contractors’ conduction of annual or repair services
  • Support development of company procedures and practices for hospital infrastructure operations and maintenance
  • Understand the Company Safety Management System and the ship’s Contingency Plan for emergency procedures
  • As necessary, stand as Engineering Officer of the Watch, whether at sea or in port
  • Collaborate with the Hotel & Electrical teams, as hospital system functions are dependent on equipment supported by these groups
  • Collaborate with Hospital Management, Biomedical and other hospital areas for coordination of maintenance
  • Maintain duty nights as assigned to support the Hotel team

Maritime Crew Leadership

  • Support training of the Hotel team on hospital infrastructure support
  • Carry out all lawful orders given by the Chief Engineer, including daily compliance of the Engineering Department with the Chief’s Standing Orders
  • Report immediately to the Chief Engineer whenever anything unforeseen happens with Engineering personnel, machinery, or spaces

For This Role, You Will Need

STCW Certifications

  • Required

  • Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW VI/1 Basic Training

  • Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW V/2-1 Crowd Management

  • Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW V/2-3 Crisis Management and Human Behavior

  • Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW V/6-1 Security Awareness

  • Preferred

  • Certificate of Competency in accordance with STCW III/2 – Chief Engineer or Second Engineer 3000 kW or greater, with all necessary STCW elements.

Administrative

  • Competent in Windows, Microsoft Office Programs, and general file/folder management tasks
  • A full, clean driving license is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently in English in both written and verbal forms.

  • Exhibit skill and flexibility in managing change and uncertainty

Education and Experience

  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Onboarding Program will be required for service of 1 year or more.

  • Maritime engineering license with a minimum of two years’ experience or experience in the below areas:

  • Maintaining and repairing compressors, compressed gas and water filtration systems

  • Experience with heating and ventilation systems, refrigeration systems and associated equipment, along with domestic sanitation systems

  • Any other background with training and experience in the maintenance of hotels, hospitals, office/apartment blocks and factories will be considered

  • Preferred:

  • At least one year’s experience as Second Engineer on a vessel with 3000 KW propulsion system
