UpReach Therapeutic Equestrian Center

About this role

Job title: Horse Donor / Equine Partner for UpReach Therapeutic Equestrian Center

About the Role UpReach Therapeutic Equestrian Center invites horse owners to share their horse for therapeutic programs. Horses must meet temperament and health requirements and will undergo an evaluation to determine safety and fit for participants, volunteers, and staff. The process begins with an owner submitting information, followed by in-person visits and a possible 45-day evaluation period.

What You'll Do

  • Complete the prospective horse form and respond to follow-up questions about your horse's experience, qualities, and needs.
  • If selected, UpReach barn manager and assistant will visit the horse (including grooming, tack, and riding) to assess suitability.
  • If the staff deem the horse a good match, arrange an evaluation period at UpReach (typically about 45 days) during which the horse will be ridden and evaluated by program staff for temperament and soundness and how it participates safely with participants, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ensure your horse meets program requirements (e.g., negative coggins within 12 months, up-to-date vaccinations) and remains compliant with farrier and veterinarian needs.
  • After evaluation, decisions are made about the horse's ongoing involvement in the therapeutic riding and related programs.

What We're Looking For

  • Age between 7 and 18
  • Height between 13.2 and 16 hands
  • Experience: Driving, English, Lessons, Trail Riding, Saddle Seat, Western, or Other
  • Suitable riding ability (lead line walk/trot, beginner walk/trot, or beginner walk/trot/canter; or driving)
  • Soundness and fitness in body and mind
  • Negative coggins in the past 12 months and up-to-date vaccinations
  • Behaves well for farrier and vet
  • Must not buck, kick, rear, bolt, spook or exhibit unsafe behaviors while under saddle or in-hand
  • Must be accepting of unusual sights, sounds, games, and toys and adaptive equipment
  • Prior exposure not required; mild temperament preferred

Compensation & Benefits

  • Your horse/pony will receive full room and board in a fenced equine community with bright, spacious living quarters.
  • Daily housekeeping, meals and beverages, spa services, and treats.
  • UpReach equines work up to two hours per day, five days a week, and benefit from a structured exercise program including schooling and/or groundwork, with time off as needed for health and happiness.
  • Access to recreational amenities for at least six hours per day, including ten open outdoor meadows, shady trails, and indoor facilities.
  • Ongoing love, attention, and opportunities to positively impact and inspire people of all ages.
