HMI/SCADA Systems Engineer

Materials Research Furnaces, LLC

About this role

Job title: HMI/SCADA Systems Engineer

About the Role We are seeking a professional to support HMI/SCADA systems for Materials Research Furnaces, responsible for configuring intuitive interfaces and fully automated run profiles that cover loading, atmosphere preparation, heating, cooling and unloading for each batch. The role ensures furnace data is collected, displayed, and available for reporting and quality control across local and enterprise networks, with secure, role-based access control.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and maintain HMI/SCADA recipes that orchestrate loading, atmosphere, heating, cooling, and unloading for specific batches.
  • Configure automated run profiles and ensure data is captured for reporting and QA across local and enterprise networks.
  • Manage user access with usernames and passwords, assigning appropriate privileges and restricting sensitive functions to authorized roles.
  • Support both automated operation and manual configuration by engineers, technicians, or supervisors as needed.
  • Integrate optional modules (Crystal Growing Kit, diffusion/turbo/ion/cryogenic pumping, partial pressure control, gas handling) into the furnace control system.
  • Assist with system commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and ongoing performance optimization in a manufacturing/instrumentation environment.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience with HMI/SCADA systems and industrial automation for complex furnace or process equipment.
  • Knowledge of vacuum systems and gas handling (diffusion, turbo, ion, cryogenic pumping; partial pressure control; mass flow controllers).
  • Understanding of safety features for flammable process gases and emergency shutdowns.
  • Ability to design automated batch recipes and integrate data collection for QA/reporting via local and enterprise networks.
  • Strong collaboration with engineers, technicians, and supervisors.

Nice to Have

  • Crystal Growing Kit experience and Czochralski crystal growth knowledge (e.g., pulling speed as low as 0.001”/min, seed rod rotation 0-30 rpm).
  • Familiarity with dew point control, gas dewpoint measurement, and gas line heating.
  • Experience with cryogenic/ion pumping systems and diffusion/turbo pumping configurations.
