About the Role Histotechnologist I in the Immunodermatology Laboratory performs complex tissue preparation for microscopic examination, including fixation, microtomy, and staining. The role encompasses immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence procedures, tissue handling, and supporting testing, reporting, and transmission of results in a clinical diagnostic setting. This entry-level position requires strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to troubleshoot issues while complying with lab policies and vaccination requirements. What You'll Do
- Process and properly handle all specimens received in the laboratory in preparation for pathologist review and diagnosis.
- Perform testing including routine, special, immunohistochemical, and/or immunofluorescence stains.
- Prepare stains, reagents, and solutions in accordance with laboratory standard written procedures.
- Perform microtomy to render quality sections for diagnoses.
- Label, enter, and track specimens and slides in the LIS (Laboratory Information System).
- Be familiar and adhere to all laboratory policies, procedures, and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Maintain laboratory work areas by performing preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment as well as keeping work area clean and organized.
- Adhere to the University PROMISE Standards; HIPAA guidelines and patient confidentiality.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols as outlined in the laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan, including PPE and proper handling and disposal of biological waste, sharps, and chemicals.
- Adhere to all compliance, inspections, and operational procedures from accrediting agencies, CLIA and CAP.
- This position requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree; it is an entry-level position in the General Professional track. What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or Master’s degree (or equivalency).
- Ability to process and prepare tissue specimens for microscopic analysis, and to perform immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining.
- Strong manual dexterity, visual perception, and attention to detail; ability to multitask.
- Knowledge of LIS, SOPs, and the ability to comply with HIPAA, CLIA, and CAP requirements.
- Willingness to work in a clinical diagnostic setting and comply with vaccination requirements. Nice to Have
- Meets CLIA minimum education requirements: Associate degree in chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or education equivalence such as 60 semester hours with specified science/chemistry coursework.
- Additional preferred coursework in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology. Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $21.00 – $27.87 per hour.
