Highways Maintenance Operative
We're looking for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our Somerset team based in Bridgwater, Somerset.
Location: Bridgwater, Somerset
Contract: Permanent, Full time
Salary: £27,976 to £30,000 depending on experience + call out + overtime

This is an excellent opportunity to join our highways team, where you'll play a vital role in maintaining and improving the Somerset road network. You'll be responding to emergencies, carrying out repairs, and helping to ensure our highways are safe and well-maintained for everyone who uses them. This is a hands-on role that offers variety, the chance to develop your skills, and the opportunity to make a real difference to local communities.
What will you be responsible for?
As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you'll be working within the Somerset team, supporting them in delivering efficient and timely highway services across the network. Your day to day will include:
- Responding to defects and emergencies on the highway, ensuring updates are provided through tablet devices and installing traffic management signage where needed
- Carrying out minor improvement works and routine maintenance to enhance the road network
- Operating a variety of plant and equipment safely and effectively to complete your duties
- Using tablet devices to accurately record works and maintain clear communication with the team and clients
- Supporting winter maintenance activities and severe weather operations when required
