Job title: Highway Maintenance Worker

About the Role This role focuses on maintenance, servicing and repairs of roads and other infrastructure assets, ensuring safety and reliability of contracted assets such as roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, and tunnels.

What You'll Do

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on roads and related infrastructure in accordance with contract standards and supervisory directions.
  • Create and manage safe Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T) by setting up and removing traffic control devices (cones, message/arrow boards, temporary signage).
  • Operate and transport crew and equipment to job sites; use bucket trucks, scaffolding, ladders, aerial platforms, large trucks, and trailers.
  • Conduct basic bridge maintenance, equipment room work, drainage (catch basins, sumps, pumps), ventilation systems, electrical systems (emergency phones, CCTV, signs, call boxes, lane signals, lighting).
  • Maintain roadway surfaces, potholes repair, striping, reflectors replacement; perform concrete and asphalt work.
  • Manage vegetation appearance and growth; perform mowing, trimming, spraying with chemicals where appropriate.
  • Ensure roadway cleanliness and debris removal; respond to emergencies on-call as part of rotations.
  • Support safety, compliance with PPE, and company policies; wear PPE as required.
  • Assist with snow removal or sanding as needed to keep roadways safe.
  • Other duties as assigned; adapt to various project models and field conditions.

What We're Looking For

  • Knowledge of underground infrastructure maintenance and basic maintenance skills.
  • Safe work practices and PPE compliance; ability to recognize hazards and prevent injuries.
  • Ability to work at heights and in field conditions; comfortable in bucket trucks, scaffolding, ladders, and lifts.
  • Basic math skills and ability to perform simple calculations.
  • Effective communication with coworkers and supervisors; ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to operate heavy vehicles and equipment including large trucks and trailers; willingness to be available for emergency rotations including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to comply with all safety and company policies.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn use of BIM, field experience, and modern construction methods.
  • Experience with signage, guardrail, fencing and lighting repairs; ability to repair and maintain slopes, berms, culverts, and drainage.
  • Knowledge of snow removal and sanding operations.
  • Basic familiarity with project technologies (e.g., BIM) is beneficial but not required.
