We're looking for a Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician to join our Shropshire Highways team based in Shrewsbury.

Location: Shrewsbury, SY3 9EL Hours: 40 hours per week - Monday to Friday

Salary: £33,425.60 per annum + benefits

The Fleet Services team plays a vital role in keeping essential services running smoothly across Shropshire. As a Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician, you'll be responsible for maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet that includes HGVs, Light Commercial Vehicles, gritters, Passenger Service Vehicles and pool cars. Your work will directly support critical operations including winter maintenance, emergency response and daily highways services, ensuring vehicles are safe, reliable and ready when needed most.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician, you'll be working within the Fleet Services team, supporting them in maintaining operational excellence across all fleet vehicles. Your day to day will include:

• Carrying out routine servicing, inspections and statutory maintenance on a variety of vehicles to manufacturer and legal standards
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults using modern diagnostic equipment
• Supporting winter maintenance operations by ensuring gritting vehicles are fully prepared and deployment-ready
• Maintaining accurate electronic service records and documentation using fleet management software
• Working collaboratively with colleagues and drivers to maintain a safe, efficient workshop environment

What are we looking for?

This role of Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician is great for you if:

• You hold a Full driving licence and a recognised motor vehicle or HGV mechanic qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
• You have demonstrable experience diagnosing and repairing faults on commercial or heavy vehicles
• You possess strong organisational skills and can prioritise your workload in a service-driven environment
• You understand workshop health and safety requirements and can accurately complete service documentation and electronic records
• You're self-motivated, trustworthy and thrive both working independently and as part of a supportive team
