Job title: Helper - 3rd year Apprentice Lineman
About the Role Under general supervision, with wide latitude for planning or laying out of working details, this role involves performing difficult and responsible tasks related to the installation and removal of electric meters, services, and related equipment on customers' premises, connecting and disconnecting services at the pole, and locating and repairing faults in transmission and distribution systems. Team members may be required to answer electric trouble calls and operate or supervise work when authorized.
What You'll Do
- Install and remove electric meters, services, and related equipment on customers' premises; connect and disconnect services at the pole
- Trace and clear grounds and opens on series circuits
- Test, switch, and inspect automatic voltage regulating devices; perform routine checks of relays on automatic reclosing equipment
- Inspect, maintain, and test substation network protectors, transformers, regulators, switching, control and related equipment
- Conduct voltage, load, substation, electrolysis, ground and other special tests; complete insulation tests on potheads, transformers, cables, bushings, etc.
- Refuse all classes of high voltage substations and line fuses
- Act in capacity of supervisor when authorized
- Proficiently operate recloser controls and regulator controls
- Read and understand wiring diagrams and blueprints related to the distribution system, meters, switchboard equipment, relays and controls
- Maintain safety and regulatory knowledge and be willing to study and report on new equipment
What We're Looking For
- At least one year of experience as a Journeyman Lineman or equivalent, with qualifications of related classifications
- Thorough knowledge of electric circuits and equipment; familiarity with the NEC and state/local regulations governing wiring, service and meter installations
- Knowledge of safety rules; ability to administer resuscitation and render first aid; willingness and ability to operate firefighting equipment
- Ability to read wiring diagrams/blueprints and to study, maintain and report performance of new equipment
- Willingness to trace, locate and analyze difficult trouble cases; proficiency with recloser and regulator controls
- Valid Class A CDL (or ability to obtain) and knowledge of city streets/traffic laws; possession of personal tools; ability to meet physical requirements with or without accommodation
- Understanding of company regulations and state laws governing disconnects for nonpayment, repossession of merchandise, and diversion of current
- Strong customer-service mindset and ability to interact professionally with the public; capable of supervisory responsibilities
- Must successfully pass the skillset evolution
