Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic

About the Role Operate a truck and drive to projects throughout Houston for the repair, service, and maintenance of heavy construction equipment in the field environment. This will include basic repair knowledge and troubleshooting of electrical, hydraulic, powertrain, and engine components. What You'll Do

• Drive to projects in Houston to perform maintenance and repair on heavy equipment including dozers, excavators, track hoes, and related heavy highway construction equipment
• Perform a variety of skilled duties involving inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on general heavy construction equipment and heavy trucks
• Weld equipment for repairs
• Operate crane for maintenance and repair work
• Read, understand, and fill out service-related documents and paperwork in a timely manner
• Conduct preventative maintenance inspections to ensure activities are performed on time
• Clean work vehicle and work area to maintain a safe environment
• Apply knowledge of the construction industry, including experience operating and repairing heavy equipment
• Read and interpret specifications and manuals
• Diagnose and repair a wide variety of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment
• Safely use hand and power tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices
• Communicate effectively with vendors, supervisors and equipment operators
• Exhibit a high level of safety consciousness and understanding of equipment safety
• Perform other unlisted duties as assigned What We're Looking For
• Five (5) or more years of experience as a heavy equipment/diesel mechanic, preferably in the field
• Ability to lift, push, or pull up to seventy (70) pounds; climb, kneel, twist, and bend in various environments
• Must have own hand tools
• High level of physical activity in a hands-on environment
• Manual dexterity to use tools and work with the fingers
• Ability to communicate in English (verbal and written)
• Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry and utilize Construction Math (rate, ratio, percent)
• Valid driver license for occasional travel
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form
• Ability to move around construction sites and maneuver by foot over minor obstacles
