Job title: Heating Plant Operator
About the Role St. Lawrence University seeks a Heating Plant Operator to operate and maintain the university's central heating plant boilers and related equipment. Interpret blueprints and specifications and apply a range of trades skills to install, repair, and maintain heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Work is based in the Central Heating Plant with a flexible, rotating schedule.
What You'll Do
- Operate high/medium/low pressure boilers; regulate central heating steam flow; operate steam turbine and electrical generation system; work with energy management systems.
- Clean, lubricate and maintain equipment; read gauges and charts; maintain water make-up system with daily testing.
- Inspect pumps and motors; perform work in the operation of the steam generating plant.
- Perform daily routine building maintenance and housekeeping as required; carry out other duties as required.
- Use tools and manage tools, materials, and devices according to accepted practices; apply knowledge of one or more trades (carpenter, painter, electrician, plumber, fleet mechanic, boiler tender, HVAC Technician) with basic knowledge of three others.
- Schedule: Flexible, rotating; Location: Central Heating Plant.
What We're Looking For
- Knowledge of one or more of the following trades with basic knowledge of three others: carpenter, painter, electrician, plumber, fleet mechanic, boiler tender, HVAC Technician.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, manufacturer specifications, and written/verbal instructions; operate and maintain heating systems and related equipment.
- Ability to read gauges and charts; daily testing of water makeup system; operate energy management systems.
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools; willingness to perform a variety of duties and work in a rotating schedule.
Nice to Have
- Experience with steam turbines and electrical generation systems.
- Experience with energy management systems and HVAC controls.
