Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Supervisor

Location: Apapa, Lagos

Job Purpose

To support FOPS’ commitment to improving Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) performance by implementing HSE objectives and ensuring compliance with local regulatory requirements, with the aim of preventing injuries and maintaining a safe working environment.

The Job

Conduct regular site and safety audits, including inspections of material-handling equipment, while maintaining accurate records of findings and preparing reports with recommendations to ensure policies and procedures are properly implemented.
Inspect the facility to identify potential accident risks, fire outbreaks, and safety hazards, and report them promptly.
Monitor factory operations to ensure the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), communicate corrective actions where deviations exist, and provide adequate PPE along with proper storage facilities for workers.
Ensure safe work practices in compliance with legislation by implementing a strict work permit system for all non-routine and hazardous tasks, issuing work permits as required, and preparing weekly HSE reports, including contractors forecasts and work permit records.
Carry out safety inductions for staff, guide employees on maintaining a safe work environment and ethical safety practices, conduct regular toolbox talks and safety pep talks, and ensure follow-up on safety engagement index parameters.

Qualification

OND in a Science related discipline.
Certification in General Health, Safety and Environment (HSE Level 2 and 3) is required.

The Person Must:

Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Have strong reporting skills
Possess a good understanding of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation management systems.
Have practical knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and hygiene control programs.
Be able to work under minimal supervision.
