Job title: Health Insurance Specialist (Medicare Savings Programs)
About the Role This role focuses on helping community members understand and enroll in Medicare Savings Programs and the Extra Help program to lower health care costs. As part of AARP Foundation Tax-Aide outreach in South Carolina, the role provides information and enrollment assistance and connects clients with SHIP resources for free guidance.
What You'll Do
- Provide clear information about Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help to eligible individuals
- Assess eligibility, explain benefits, and guide enrollment for seniors and others on limited incomes
- Connect clients with State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) for free, personalized assistance
- Explain potential savings (up to $7,000/year) and that current plan and doctors remain unchanged
- Collaborate with partners (AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, SC Thrive) to reach eligible beneficiaries in the community
What We're Looking For
- Strong communication and counseling skills, especially with seniors
- Ability to explain complex benefits in plain language
- Experience in outreach, community education, or nonprofit program support
- Interest in helping low-income individuals access health care and prescription drug assistance
- Knowledge of Medicare basics and eligibility considerations (preferred)
