About the Role
Under the supervision of the Damaturu Health Team Leader, the Health Field Officer 2 will implement Health and Nutrition activities within the assigned Area of Responsibility. The role serves as the focal point for nutrition and oversees the Stabilization Centre at hospital level, ensuring quality management of Severe Acute Malnutrition with medical complications. The incumbent will oversee OTP and TSFP services in ICRC-supported PHCCs in Damaturu Sub-Delegation, contribute to MIYCN interventions, and support community nutrition activities in collaboration with the Economic Security team.
What You'll Do
- Serve as ICRC focal point for Stabilization Centre service and monitor adherence to SAM management protocols.
- Conduct regular supportive supervision to improve quality of care; mentor hospital staff working at the SC.
- Monitor admissions, outcomes, cure rates, mortality rates and other key indicators; oversee procurement and management of therapeutic feeds, drugs and medical supplies.
- Support implementation, monitoring and supervision of OTP and TSFP services in ICRC-supported facilities.
- Contribute to MIYCN interventions and support community nutrition activities with the Economic Security team.
- Strengthen quality of care in outpatient consultations, maternal and child health services, immunization and family planning, and preventive services.
- Support health facilities in compiling routine health and nutrition reports; monitor nutrition commodity consumption, storage and forecasting.
- Organize/train staff, provide mentorship and capacity building across supported facilities.
- Monitor and report disease outbreaks and public health emergencies; support preparedness and response to cholera, measles, diphtheria, meningitis, malnutrition surges and other emergencies.
- Strengthen collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross Society and humanitarian partners; promote integration across Health, Nutrition, EcoSec, Water and Habitat and Protection programmes.
What We're Looking For
- University degree in medicine, nursing or midwifery; postgraduate master’s degree/diploma in public health or health management is a strong asset.
- Fluent English and local working language (Hausa).
- Valid license to practice; good computer skills.
- Minimum of 3 years professional experience in related field, especially in emergencies.
