Job title: Head Start Teacher

About the Role The incumbent is responsible for the overall health and safety of preschoolers in the Head Start program and works as part of the classroom team to foster trusting relationships and effective classroom functioning. Schedule is developed daily/weekly to ensure classroom coverage as needed.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain and support a safe, healthy learning environment; develop trusting relationships with children and families; encourage family involvement.
  • Support the mission and philosophy of the Head Start program and promote readiness for school through literacy, language development, math and science, and problem-solving.
  • Attend not less than 15 clock hours of classroom-focused professional development; complete at least 18 hours annually; work with supervision to develop development plans; pursue outside trainings if applicable.
  • Participate in family engagement initiatives, family-style meals, and center team responsibilities; assist with paperwork; know health and nutrition conditions; follow Emergency Preparedness Procedures; coordinate onsite field trips; attend parent meetings.
  • Change diapers as appropriate; maintain proper hygiene; provide CPR/First Aid as assigned; maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality; abide by CAPHR safety policies.

What We're Looking For

  • Age 18 or older with a High School diploma or GED; CDA credential or 9 credits in early childhood, including 3 credits in child growth and development; Associate’s Degree in ECE preferred.
  • Awareness of developmentally appropriate practice and ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • Ability to kneel to address children, perform motor activities, run after children in peril, lift children during emergencies, and comfort children during challenging behaviors; willing to be on the floor with children as needed; resilience to exuberant play.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel as needed; all hiring subject to NH Code Administrative Rules and Head Start Performance Standards.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $17.55 - $20.24 per hour, based on education and experience.
