Overview

The Head of Patient Engagement, Immunology is responsible for designing and leading Biogen's patient engagement strategy across the immunology portfolio. This leader will oversee the end-to-end post-prescription patient journey, ensuring patients can successfully access, start, and remain on therapy through a seamless and integrated support experience.

The role combines responsibility for patient support operations, patient engagement strategy, digital experience, and launch readiness. Working across commercial, market access, analytics, technology, and patient services teams, this leader will identify barriers to therapy, optimize patient outcomes, and continuously enhance the patient experience through data-driven insights and innovation.

This position will play a critical role in shaping patient support capabilities as Biogen prepares for future immunology launches, including lupus. You will have the opportunity to shape the future of patient engagement, build new capabilities, and create innovative experiences that help patients successfully access and stay on life-changing therapies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Experience & Engagement Strategy

  • Lead the strategy and execution of the end-to-end post-prescription patient journey across the immunology portfolio.

  • Design and optimize patient engagement programs that improve therapy initiation, adherence, and long-term persistence.

  • Ensure an integrated patient experience across human support services, digital engagement platforms, hub operations, nursing services, and specialty pharmacy partners.

  • Identify and address patient access barriers, treatment friction points, and operational gaps impacting patient outcomes.

  • Translate patient insights, analytics, and emerging technologies into measurable improvements in patient experience and program performance.

  • Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Build, lead, and scale a high-performing patient engagement organization to support current and future portfolio needs.

  • Direct and develop multiple senior leaders while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.

  • Lead organizational transformation efforts that modernize patient support capabilities and customer engagement models.

  • Establish performance metrics, governance frameworks, and operational excellence standards across programs and vendors.

  • Launch Readiness & Commercial Partnership

  • Serve as the patient engagement lead for pipeline and launch products, ensuring patient services strategies are built into launch planning from early development through commercialization.

  • Partner closely with therapeutic area leadership to align patient support strategy with product objectives and evolving market needs.

  • Drive launch readiness planning, scenario development, and operational scaling required to support successful product launches.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner across Market Access, Brand, Analytics, Legal, Compliance, IT, Field Engagement, Finance, and Patient Experience teams to align business priorities and execution plans.

  • Influence key stakeholders across the organization and build alignment within a complex matrix environment.

  • Ensure patient support investments, technology solutions, and operating models support both business objectives and patient needs.

Qualifications

  • Required

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) preferred.

  • 15+ years of experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or related industries.

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in patient services, patient engagement, patient support, market access, or related functions.

  • Demonstrated success building and leading patient support programs, hub operations, and patient engagement models.

  • Significant launch and commercialization experience, including development and implementation of patient services strategies for new products.

  • Experience creating or transforming operating models, teams, and capabilities in support of organizational growth.

  • Deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare ecosystem, patient access, reimbursement, specialty pharmacy, hub operations, and patient support services.

  • Proven experience using data, analytics, and performance metrics to drive strategic decision making and program optimization.

  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence across a complex matrixed organization.

  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale cross-functional initiatives and organizational change.

  • Preferred

  • Experience within Immunology, Rheumatology, Dermatology, Lupus, or other specialty therapeutic areas.

  • Experience managing both digital and human-centered patient engagement models.

  • Experience partnering with analytics, data science, or machine learning teams to improve patient outcomes and service delivery.

  • Experience supporting both in-house and outsourced patient support operations.

  • Additional Information

  • The base compensation range for this role is: $240,000.00-$339,000.00

  • Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.

  • Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
