Head of MSAT Technology Transfer

About the Role Roche is seeking a highly skilled leader with competency in both greenfield engineering projects and routine operations to spearhead end-to-end MSAT technology transfer and operational readiness at its state-of-the-art greenfield biopharmaceutical facility in Shanghai. The MSAT Tech Transfer Manager will drive complex tech transfers, develop advanced processes, and ensure the successful design, qualification, start-up, ramp-up, and sustained operational excellence. The role emphasizes collaboration across internal and external stakeholders, cross-functional teams, and Roche’s global network to ensure alignment, best practice implementation, and strict GMP/SHE compliance.

What You'll Do

• Lead Tech Transfer, PPM introduction, and compliance to ensure successful manufacturing readiness.
• Oversee all operations tied to technology transfer, including process design and troubleshooting, adherence to strict cGMP standards, and maintaining compliance with Roche quality policies and international regulatory requirements.
• Drive technical innovation by identifying, evaluating, and implementing advanced technologies and methodologies to enhance process control, automation capabilities, and product quality consistency.
• Enable and empower your team by practicing VACC leadership and focusing on strategic project development in China; interface with MFG, QA, ENG to ensure process alignment and production readiness.
• Facilitate robust interaction and collaboration with global team members, internal stakeholders, and external partners, ensuring seamless execution of transfers; provide timely updates, promote knowledge sharing, and establish efficient coordination mechanisms to drive alignment on key initiatives and milestones.
• Actively contribute to the design and construction of the new facility, encompassing key activities such as IOPQ, APS, and process validation for seamless technology transfer, ensuring successful project execution and readiness.
• Lead and develop a high-performing team, with emphasis on people development, fostering growth, and succession planning; champion diversity, equity, and inclusion; promote a safe and compliant work culture; build strong cross-functional alliances; and drive continuous improvement through lean leadership principles.

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated leadership aligned with VACC: Visionary, Architect, Coach, Catalyst; capable of crafting and executing forward-looking strategies; driving a high-impact culture and continuous improvement.
• Proven track record leading end-to-end technology transfer in a cGMP biopharma environment, including greenfield design, qualification, manufacturing readiness, and startup.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration across MFG, QA, ENG, and Roche's global network; ability to align processes and drive project milestones.
• Deep knowledge of GMP and SHE standards, regulatory requirements, quality systems, and process validation.
• Innovative mindset with a track record of evaluating and implementing advanced technologies to improve process control and automation.
• Experience working with teams in China or collaborating with local sites (where applicable).
• Strong people development and succession planning capabilities; ability to build and sustain a high-performance organization.

Nice to Have

• Experience with IOPQ, APS, and process validation for seamless tech transfer.
• Prior MSAT/technology transfer leadership experience in biopharma; greenfield and routine operations.
• Knowledge of automation, digitalization, and advanced process control in biopharma.
• Familiarity with working in a highly regulated environment and CRO/CMO collaborations.
