Job Summary

The Head of Hausa Service will lead the strategic vision, editorial direction, and daily operations of the Hausa-language desk within a fully converged, multi-platform newsroom. This role requires a dynamic editorial leader who can seamlessly break down the silos between digital, print, audio, and video platforms to deliver high-impact journalism. The ideal candidate will combine a deep understanding of Hausa-speaking audiences and regional politics across West Africa with extensive experience in digital transformation and data-driven news workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Multi-Platform Leadership: Oversee the creation, optimization, and distribution of Hausa-language content across digital, social media, broadcast, and print platforms simultaneously.
• Editorial Excellence: Maintain final sign-off and exercise impeccable editorial judgment on complex, fast-moving, or sensitive stories impacting Northern Nigeria and the wider West African region.
• Converged Workflow Management: Drive collaborative cross-desk resource sharing, ensuring breaking news is quickly adapted for multiple formats (e.g., text, short-form video, audio packages).
• Digital Transformation: Use audience analytics, data tools, and emerging newsroom technologies to inform commission strategies and maximize audience engagement.
• Team Management: Supervise, mentor, and upskill a diverse team of Hausa multimedia journalists, producers, anchors, and translation specialists in modern digital journalism.
• Compliance & Ethics: Guarantee all Hausa content complies with national broadcast standards, media laws, and global journalistic ethics regarding accuracy and balance.

Key Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in mass communication, Journalism, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 8 years of newsroom experience, with at least 3 years in an editorial leadership role.
• Language Mastery: Absolute fluency in written and spoken Hausa, with a nuanced understanding of Hausa cultural norms and regional dialects.
• Regional Expertise: Deep knowledge of Nigerian and West African current affairs, regional politics, and socio-economic dynamics.
• Technical Proficiency: Hands-on familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS), digital analytic tools and basic multimedia editing software.
• Under-Pressure Performance: Proven ability to manage a team effectively under high-pressure breaking news environments and tight deadlines.
