About this role

About us

Clipt is a fast-growing video editor staffing and creative services agency. We place skilled video editors with brands and creators, and we produce short-form and long-form video for some of the biggest consumer brands in the world.

We're also the team behind Smart Nonsense, a YouTube channel with 3.5 million subscribers built on one mission: make learning fun.

We work with more than 100 clients today, and that number keeps growing. We're a small, hands-on team that moves quickly, cares about craft, and treats each other (and our clients) well.

## The role

We're hiring our first dedicated Head of Finance to own invoicing, accounting, and collections for the business. You'll be the person who keeps our numbers accurate, our invoices out the door on time, and our cash coming in.

This is a full-time, remote role reporting directly to leadership. Day one, the focus is execution: getting invoices right, closing the books each month, and making sure nothing slips through the cracks. Over time, we want this person to grow with us into a true finance leader who helps with budgeting, forecasting, pricing, and planning.

You don't need to have done all of that before. We care most that you're organized, detail-oriented, responsive, and eager to take on more as the company grows.

How the role grows:

  • First 3 months: Learn our clients, billing setups, and tools. Take full ownership of monthly invoicing and accounts receivable.
  • First 6 months: Run a clean, on-time monthly close. Build simple, reliable processes and reporting that the team can count on.
  • First year and beyond: Step into higher-level work like cash flow forecasting, budgeting, client profitability, and financial planning alongside leadership.

## What you'll do

Invoicing and billing

  • Prepare and send a high volume of monthly invoices across 100+ clients, each with its own billing setup (retainers, hourly, per-project, and blended arrangements).
  • Keep a clear, up-to-date record of each client's billing terms, rates, and any special situations.
  • Catch errors before invoices go out, and resolve billing questions quickly when they come up.

Accounts receivable and collections

  • Track every outstanding invoice and know where each one stands.
  • Partner with our Client Success team to follow up on late payments and collect what's owed, professionally and persistently.
  • Share a regular snapshot of what's been billed, what's been paid, and what's overdue.

Accounting and monthly close

  • Help close the books each month, accurately and on schedule.
  • Categorize transactions, reconcile bank and payment accounts, and keep our records clean.
  • Work with our outside accountant or bookkeeper on taxes, year-end, and anything else they need.

Accounts payable and payroll support

  • Help manage payments to our editors, contractors, and vendors so everyone is paid correctly and on time.

Keeping us organized

  • Build and improve simple processes, checklists, and templates that make our finances easier to run.
  • Be the go-to person for finance questions across the team, and respond quickly.
  • Spot problems early and flag them before they become bigger issues.

What we're looking for

Must-haves

  • 3+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, billing, or finance, ideally supporting a US-based company.
  • Hands-on experience with invoicing and accounts receivable at real volume.
  • Comfort with accounting software (QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar) and strong spreadsheet skills (Excel or Google Sheets).
  • Exceptional attention to detail. You double-check your work and notice when numbers don't add up.
  • Highly organized, with a system for keeping track of many moving pieces at once.
  • Responsive and reliable. When someone on the team asks a question, they hear back from you quickly.
  • Clear, professional written and spoken English, including polite but firm communication about overdue payments.
  • Able to work overlapping hours with our US team (Central Time).

Nice-to-haves

  • A degree in accounting or finance, or progress toward a CPA.
  • Experience at an agency, staffing firm, or services business with many clients on different billing terms.
  • Familiarity with tools like Stripe, Bill.com, Gusto, or payment platforms for international contractors.
  • Experience building financial reports or dashboards, or an interest in learning forecasting and budgeting.

Working with us

  • Location: Remote, with flexibility to join ad-hoc occasional meetings overlapping with US time zone
  • Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week)
  • Compensation: Competitive and based on experience, with room to grow as the role expands.
  • Start date: ASAP

You'll be joining at an exciting point. You'll have real ownership from day one, direct access to leadership, and a clear path to grow into a senior finance role as we scale.
