About this role
Job title: Head of External API Ecosystem
About the Role At Playlist, Mindbody’s external API ecosystem is a core driver of partner success and customer value. You will own the strategy, roadmap, and governance for the external API ecosystem, treating the API as a product and shaping the developer experience to enable rapid, reliable integrations. This role partners with the Partnerships team to land strategic integrations and leads the go-to-market for API changes, ensuring launches, versioning, and deprecations land smoothly.
What You'll Do
- Own the strategy, roadmap, and governance for Mindbody's external API ecosystem — the APIs that partners, integrators, and enterprise customers build on.
- Treat the API as a product. Set the standards for API design, authentication and authorization, versioning, deprecation lifecycle, rate limiting, and the SLAs our partners depend on.
- Shape the external developer experience, including documentation, support, sandbox environments, webhooks, and onboarding, so partners can integrate quickly and confidently.
- Be the voice of the external developer and partner. Turn integration pain points and usage patterns into a clear point of view on the highest-ROI opportunities for the ecosystem.
- Collaborate closely with the Partnerships team and external partners to land strategic integrations that solve real customer pain points and drive meaningful business value.
- Own the go-to-market for API changes, internally and externally. Drive CX, Sales, and Account Management enablement, and communicate clearly with partners and enterprise customers, so launches, versioning, and deprecations land smoothly.
- Define the success metrics for the ecosystem (adoption, partner activation, integration health, and reliability) and communicate the value of API investments through data-driven storytelling.
What We're Looking For
- A track record of owning technical or platform products end to end, partnering closely with engineering to ship capabilities that other teams or developers build on. Experience with external or public-facing APIs is a strong bonus.
- Technical depth to engage credibly with engineering and architecture on system design, integration patterns, authentication, security, and data privacy. Familiarity with API-specific concerns such as versioning, rate limiting, and auth models like OAuth is a plus.
- Systems and platform thinking. You reason about products and platforms as part of a larger system, designing for reuse, scale, and longevity rather than one-off solutions.
- Comfort operating across both technical and commercial stakeholders, translating needs from Partnerships, Sales, and enterprise customers into a coherent technical roadmap.
- A record of driving complex, cross-functional initiatives through influence rather than authority.
- Fluency with data, defining the metrics that matter and using them to prioritize, communicate impact, and make API lifecycle decisions.
- Familiarity with the tooling that supports an API ecosystem, such as developer portals, API gateways, and usage analytics.
Nice to Have
- Experience with external or public-facing APIs is a strong bonus (already noted in the What We're Looking For).
- Prior exposure to wellness/fitness tech platforms (Mindbody ecosystem familiarity) is helpful.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range for this position in the United States is $150,000 to $185,000. The total compensation package may also include a performance bonus, benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
- We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and value diversity at our company.
