Job title: Head Coach, Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field
About the Role Lead and oversee all aspects of Alma College's men's and women's Cross Country and Track & Field programs, including practice planning, competition preparation, travel, scheduling, and achieving program goals. Drive recruitment, enrollment, and retention of academically qualified and competitively successful student-athletes while partnering with the Athletics Director and Admissions. Ensure a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment that upholds NCAA Division III and MIAA policies and standards.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting strategy with the Athletics Director and Admissions staff, including establishing annual recruiting targets and monitoring progress.
- Recruit, enroll, and retain academically qualified student-athletes; monitor academic progress, eligibility, well-being, and connect with campus resources as needed.
- Manage program operations including scheduling, team travel, equipment, uniforms, supplies, camps, and other related activities.
- Prepare and manage the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Athletics Director.
- Recruit, hire, supervise, develop, and evaluate assistant coaches and program staff; mentor coaches while fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Develop and execute fundraising initiatives in collaboration with the Athletics Director to support departmental goals and align with the College's advancement strategy.
- Collaborate with Student Services, Residence Life, Admissions, Advancement, and other campus partners to support student success and enhance the student-athlete experience.
- Represent Alma College and the Athletics Department professionally; foster health, safety, well-being, and sportsmanship; promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with Alma College, the MIAA, and NCAA Division III policies; ensure program compliance with integrity.
- Attend departmental meetings, professional development opportunities, and campus events; perform secondary duties as assigned by the Athletics Director.
What We're Looking For
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience in collegiate athletics with a track record of recruiting and retaining student-athletes and achieving program goals.
- Experience in planning practices, competition preparation, scheduling, travel, and overall program operations.
- Budget management and fundraising experience; ability to develop partnerships with Admissions, Student Services, and Advancement.
- Knowledge of NCAA Division III, MIAA rules, and Alma College policies; strong commitment to compliance and integrity.
- Commitment to student-athlete health, safety, well-being, sportsmanship, and to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; ability to foster a positive team culture.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills; ability to work with multiple campus partners and represent the department effectively.
- Willingness to perform campus duties and attend events as required.
