Job title: GSE Mechanic
About the Role The GSE Mechanic (Fleet Mechanic) is responsible for service and maintenance of Ground Service Equipment (GSE) at the designated station to keep equipment safe, reliable, and compliant with local laws. This on-site, full-time role in Grand Rapids, MI supports Swissport Ramp and related service teams in a fast-paced aviation environment.
What You'll Do
- Operate and drive all types of GSE equipment – motorized and non-motorized.
- Perform preventive maintenance per established schedules on all ground support equipment.
- Provide troubleshooting and diagnostic assessment as required.
- Apply hydraulic knowledge and willingness to learn hydraulic systems.
- Complete deicing training; be prepared to work in snow, ice, and cold weather; overtime during weather emergencies may be necessary.
- Remove malfunctioning GSE from service until diagnosed and repaired; respond to emergencies and accidents involving GSE.
- Complete maintenance/repair documentation per carrier, station, airport authority, municipal, state, federal, and SP requirements.
- Comply with security requirements of federal, provincial, municipal, airport authority and carrier.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license for air side and non-airside; follow safety guidelines by WCB, EPA, WHMIS.
- Keep the GSE shop and equipment clean and serviceable; report deficiencies; refuel equipment safely.
- Liaise professionally with Ramp management, customers, and staff; work as a self-starter and report to shop leads daily.
What We're Looking For
- Valid driver's license.
- Trade school training and/or mechanical background preferred.
- Good oral and verbal communication skills; good computer skills.
- Willing to clean and maintain a safe workshop.
- Willing to travel for training or to assist other Swissport stations as required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly pay: $23-$26 per hour (USD).
