Group Litigation Counsel

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Group Litigation Counsel to provide strategic legal advice on litigation and dispute resolution, manage external counsel, and protect the Group's legal interests across commercial disputes, regulatory investigations, employment claims, and contractual disagreements. What You'll Do

• Provide strategic legal advice on litigation and dispute resolution.

• Manage external counsel and oversee litigation.

• Minimize legal risk exposure through proactive legal support and early dispute resolution.

• Represent the company in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings as needed.

• Represent the Group in courts and tribunals at magistrate, federal, state, and appellate levels.

• Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis of precedents.

• Develop case strategy with external counsel for prosecution and defence.

• Review pre-litigation and arbitration claims and support the business.

• Evaluate cases, develop arguments, and formulate strategies for litigation and all dispute resolutions.

• Provide legal opinions and counsel on compliance and risk mitigation.

• Manage Post Judgment/Orders.

• Conduct in-house training for frontline staff on Anti-Bribery & Corruption and Anti-Trust compliance.

• Review and revise documents and submissions from external counsel.

• Oversee all litigation and dispute resolution matters involving the Group and protect the company's legal interests across disputes, regulatory investigations, employment claims, and contractual disagreements.

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel to develop and execute effective legal strategies and ensure regulatory compliance. What We're Looking For

• First Degree in Law (LLB/BL); Postgraduate degree in Corporate Law an advantage.

• Qualified to Practice as a Barrister and Solicitor in Nigeria.

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a litigation/dispute resolution associate within a top-tier law firm; corporate litigation experience a plus.

• Expertise in litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution under Nigerian law (civil and criminal procedure, arbitration, mediation).

• Strong knowledge of contract law and regulatory compliance (local and international, including energy, labor, aviation, maritime, environmental law, health and safety).

• Ability to analyze complex legal issues, assess litigation risks, and align litigation strategy with business objectives.

• Proficiency in legal research and interpretation of statutes, case law, and regulations.

• Ability to manage multi-party disputes, including joint ventures and community-related claims.

• Understanding of technical reports and operational data relevant to litigation. Nice to Have

• Postgraduate degree in Corporate Law (advantage).

• Additional experience as litigation counsel within a corporate organization (plus).
