About this role

Job title: Group Leader

About the Role Under the direction of the School Age Education Director and in accordance with Association policies, the Group Leader assists in the operation of all School Age Education programming. The Group Leader serves as an instructor and role model to program participants and participates in planning and implementing high-quality programs with a focus on safety and well-being. They engage families and school staff while complying with licensing rules and YMCA procedures.

What You'll Do

  • Make meaningful connections with program participants, families, and school personnel while maintaining a positive and caring attitude.
  • Supervise and engage children by implementing enriching and educational activities in a fun and safe environment; maintain appropriate adult-to-child ratios; arrive on time and prepared.
  • Keep accurate daily attendance records, monitor safety, and solve conflicts effectively.
  • Attend staff trainings and meetings; follow all state licensing and YMCA policies and procedures; maintain current certifications and staff files.
  • Collaborate with the School Age Education Director and leadership staff; perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • 18+ years old with a high school diploma or equivalent; preferred candidates may have completed Introduction to the Child Care Profession and Skills and Strategies.
  • Required trainings: CPR-Pro, AED, and First Aid; Abusive Head Trauma; fingerprinting completed prior to first shift; must obtain within 3 months if not present.
  • Prior childcare experience preferred; dependable with reliable transportation; available through the school year and School Out Days.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, time management, punctuality, initiative, and flexibility; ability to model YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Understanding of licensing requirements (e.g., DCF Rule Book 251) and YMCA policies; willingness to complete additional coursework to become qualified as an assistant teacher.

Nice to Have

  • Completion of Introduction to the Child Care Profession and Skills and Strategies, or coursework in Education or a related field, or willingness to complete such coursework.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $15-$20 per hour
  • This is a hybrid, part-time role with duties aligned to School Age Education programming.
