About the Role Canonical is hiring a Group Financial Controller to lead the accounting function, ensure the integrity of financial information, and drive scalable, technology-enabled accounting processes. The ideal candidate blends deep systems accounting expertise, experience preparing finance functions for public markets, and an innovative mindset that leverages data analytics, AI, and software skills. The role sits in a fast-growing, globally distributed company with a governance framework and a focus on conservative, accurate reporting.
What You'll Do
- Ensure strong understanding of the risks associated with processes and systems and lead the development and implementation of controls to mitigate those risks.
- Lead the development and identification of areas of improvement of Canonical’s policies and procedures that will enable the business to scale efficiently.
- Drive the implementation of Canonical’s policies and procedures and the monitoring of compliance.
- Support multi-functional change projects designed to enhance systems, processes, and data accuracy.
- Manage reviews of weekly, monthly, and year-end closes, and drive timely, accurate reporting.

- Methodical, detail-oriented, and process-driven problem-solver who investigates discrepancies to find root causes.
- Resilient under pressure, particularly during month-end and year-end closes; motivated by achieving perfect, timely, and reliable results.
- Deep personal interest in the software and technology industry, with some data analytics, AI, and ideally software engineering experience.
- Location is home-based in EMEA time zones, with the option to be based in the London office.
