Group Chief Operating Officer (GCOO)

Overview

Group Chief Operating Officer (GCOO) in Lagos (office-based, with regular travel to subsidiary locations). Salary: Competitive executive salary, plus a 40–60% performance-based annual bonus, a long-term incentive scheme and executive benefits (car and driver, furnished accommodation, family HMO, pension).

Responsibilities

• Translating Group strategy into operational plans, KPIs and annual business plans
• Overseeing lending operations, collections, branch operations, customer service, IT and shared services
• Leading digital transformation, process re-engineering and automation
• Driving Group-wide customer experience strategy
• Ensuring compliance with CBN, AML/CFT and NDPC/NDPR requirements
• Managing OPEX budgets and cost discipline
• Building a high-performance culture and succession pipeline for critical roles

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or a related field is required, and an MBA or MSc is preferred
• 10–15 years of post-graduation experience, including at least 5 years in a C-suite or executive role within financial services, microfinance banking or fintech
• Professional certifications such as CIBN, PMP or Six Sigma are an advantage
• Experience with core banking systems and multi-branch, multi-product operations
• We're looking for an operational heavyweight who is strategic, systems-minded and comfortable leading senior teams, with a strong grasp of CBN prudential guidelines, NDIC regulations and data protection requirements
• The role reports to the Group Managing Director, sits on EXCO and key committees, and gives direct Board exposure. There's a clear progression path toward Group MD/CEO or non-executive board roles
