About the Role The Groundsperson is responsible for maintaining Lafayette College's campus grounds and related facilities under supervision, including roads, walkways, turf and landscaped areas, and supporting snow removal and waste removal efforts. This role involves operating equipment and performing a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure safe and attractive campus grounds. What You'll Do
- Maintain campus roads, walkways, turf and landscaped areas using groundskeeping methods and equipment; tasks include mowing, raking, cutting sod, trimming, patching, sweeping, transplanting, digging, trenching, watering, washing, spraying, shoveling and snow plowing, among others.
- Move and lift materials, equipment, furniture and supplies as needed.
- Operate and maintain garden-type equipment (small tractors and trailers, mowers, sprayers, weed eaters, trimmers, chainsaws, shears, sod cutters, etc.).
- Drive a ¾ ton truck.
- Conduct snow removal operations using plows, blowers, sweepers and related equipment to clear walkways, driveways, roads and parking lots on and off campus.
- Operate a trash truck and assist with removing trash and recyclables from campus containers and facilities.
- Demonstrate initiative to identify and report maintenance or safety issues; make recommendations to improve production, safety, and work conditions.
- Maintain, clean and perform minor repairs on all equipment daily.
- Be willing to work planned or emergency overtime for campus events, athletic events and snow operations requiring grounds crew support.
- Demonstrate flexibility to work across various jobs and adjust to schedule changes.
- Communicate effectively with others, verbally and in writing.
- Perform other tasks related to maintenance and repair of college facilities as assigned. What We're Looking For
- Current driver’s license for your state of residence.
- Ability to meet Emergency Personnel requirements, including nights and weekends, and respond to snow clearance needs of the Grounds Shop.
- Ability to meet heavy lifting requirements (up to 100 pounds, with occasional lifts above 100 pounds) and handle heavy items such as furniture, appliances, cement and other materials.
- Willingness to perform overtime as needed for campus events and snow operations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
