Job title: Groundskeeper I

Schreiner University is seeking an entry-level Groundskeeper I to maintain campus grounds and assist with public building care. The role involves performing grounds maintenance, supporting event-related needs, and auxiliary campus maintenance tasks as required. Some overtime and weekend work may be required for events.

What You'll Do

• Maintain the appearance of the campus grounds, mow and trim grass
• Trim, water, remove and plant trees and shrubs
• Control ant beds; care for lawns, shrubbery, trees and flowerbeds
• Remove dirt, rubbish, and refuse from grounds; clean and maintain grounds equipment
• Drive trucks and haul materials, supplies, dirt, and/or office furniture
• Work special events (parking, loading, etc.) – may include weekends and overtime
• Perform various gardening activities; assist in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, auto repair and maintenance as needed
• May perform vehicle oil changes, lubes, inspections, cleaning and washing
• May repair or stripe parking lots, roads and sidewalks; preventative maintenance as needed
• May perform custodial work, assisting in cleaning buildings and moving furniture
• May be on-call as required

What We're Looking For

• Completion of high school generally preferred; experience in grounds keeping and maintenance
• Experience in grounds keeping and maintenance; education and experience may substitute
• Valid Class C Driver's License issued by the State of Texas, and proof of insurance
• Ability to perform on-call duties
• Knowledge of planting and care of trees, shrubbery, flowers, and grass
• Skill in the use of grounds keeping hand tools and equipment
• Skill in the operation of motorized and gas operated equipment (tractors, mowers, edgers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, self-propelled sweepers/vacuums, paint striping machines)
• Skill in the repair and maintenance of parking lots
• Ability to maintain and care for hand and power tools and equipment used in grounds keeping and gardening
• Physical ability: lift up to 100 pounds and carry 70 pounds; bend, climb; lift 50 pounds plus; ability to work overtime, some evenings, nights and weekends
