About the Role
Maintain county grounds at multiple facilities to ensure safe, clean, and accessible campuses. This role focuses on hands-on landscaping, irrigation management, equipment maintenance, and support for events and emergencies to keep facilities operational.
What You'll Do
- Maintain landscaping (mowing, borders, trees, debris removal)
- Manage/install irrigation systems; inspect for leaks and perform repairs as needed
- Maintain, repair, and schedule service for grounds maintenance equipment
- Apply pesticides, traps, and chemicals in compliance with federal, state, and county requirements
- Respond to emergencies and safety concerns; inspect facilities and campus lots for hazards
- Identify needed repairs and recommend procedures; coordinate with outside contractors when necessary
- Install/maintain campus signage and deploy barricades as needed
- Request equipment and supplies; manage inventory
- Lead and liaison for special community events
- Plow and remove snow from walkways, parking lots, and sidewalks
- Assist with construction, remodeling, painting, ceiling, carpet, glazing, and masonry repairs
- Maintain carpeting, vinyl floors, fences, roofs, sprinkler heads, etc.
- Repair various items and systems (plumbing fixtures, furniture, lighting, clocks, etc.)
- Oversee inmate worker crews during daily operations
- Occasionally work nights and weekends
- Other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma
- 1 year of experience in landscaping, grounds keeping, or maintenance
- Valid driver's license
- Knowledge of safety practices; ability to read MSDS and follow safety code requirements
- Ability to operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment; familiarity with tools
- Experience in basic construction, painting, carpentry, plumbing, custodial work
- Successful background investigation
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English; strong communication
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows Office applications
- Ability to schedule activities, manage time, set priorities, and work under limited supervision
- Willingness to work with inmate workers and adapt to changing priorities
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $4,273.84 - $4,666.57 monthly (Steps 2-4) and $4,877.80 - $5,576.94 monthly (Longevity Steps 5-8)
